DAY 0 โ€” You File Dispute

Send certified mail or submit online. Save proof of date โ€” this starts every clock.

DAY 30 โ€” CRA Must Complete Investigation

Under ยง 1681i(a)(1), the CRA must complete its investigation within 30 days of receiving your dispute. Extended to 45 days if you provide additional information during the investigation.

DAY 35 โ€” CRA Must Send Results

Within 5 business days of completing its investigation, the CRA must send you the results in writing under ยง 1681i(a)(6).

2 YEARS โ€” SOL Deadline

You have 2 years from when you discovered the violation (or 5 years from the violation itself, whichever is earlier) to file suit under ยง 1681p.
